Unity's Board of Directors is made up of Volunteers
It was while working at the Plant City Courier that Joyce Jordan
and a friend came up with the idea for Unity in the Community, Inc.,
a nonprofit, 501 (c-3)organization, to benefit charity services in our area. Starting
our twelfth year as of February 1, 2011. From a number of fund raisers each year,
Unity in the Community helps support Meals on Wheels, United Food Bank and Services,
Thanksgiving dinner program, and in 2010 we made a one time donation to
Trinity Special Sportsman Ministry and Plant City Junior Womens Club.
" I was raised to help people" says Joyce explaining why she was interested in beginning
a charity in Plant City and helping people as she does along with many Volunteers.
I am proud to say that Plant City has backed our organization from day one. In
November 2001 due to illness my work with Unity was very limited and several of the
local business in Plant City had fund raisers in order to keep Unity going until I was
back on my feet again in late 2002. On behalf of Unity, Joyce wants to thank all the
sponsors for their generosity and the volunteers for thier hard work.
Since 1999, Unity in the Community, Inc. has raised over Half a Million Dollars
for community service organizations and over 300 Thanksgiving dinners for
familes in need, each year. Unity is completely volunteer staffed, no one is
paid and all funds raised stay in the Plant City area.
